Description of ASL Summer Camp - American Sign Language (ASL) Summer Youth Camp is designed for students of all hearing abilities (deaf, hard of hearing, hearing and nonverbal) students to learn the 3rd most used language in our country. During this fun and interactive camp, campers will have the opportunity to learn fundamental ASL through fun and engaging activities such as drawing, coloring, painting, creating handmade jewelry and/or soap or candy making. Campers will learn how to play board and card games in ASL and will learn communication phrases and songs in sign language. Campers will have the opportunity to increase their memorization and communication skills, learn to collaboratively work with their peers and improve their interpersonal skills. Campers' families are invited to attend a special presentation on the last day of camp where campers will show off what they learned and families will have the opportunity to learn a little bit of ASL themselves. Curriculum taught during camp will be as follows: History of ASL Introduction to Deaf Culture 5 Parameters of ASL How the body is set up in ASL ASL Alphabet and the importance of Fingerspelling Numbers up 99 Family Signs Pronouns Wh-Q Basic Conversational Phrases Introduction to Verbs and Vocabulary related to categories of food, health and animals. Introduction to Syntax and Grammar rules in ASL. and much much more.....
